Caroline Weir’s brace lifts Manchester City to Continental Cup win – JWS

Manchester City defeated consecutive champion Chelsea 3-1 in Saturday’s Continental Cup final.

The trio of goals in the second half led Manchester City to victory after a challenging opening in the 45th minute.

Sam Kerr put Chelsea on the board in the 34th minute, collected loose balls in the box and then scored Bruce’s first goal.

Manchester City responded shortly after the break, with Caroline Weir shooting a short-range shot in the box in the 49th minute.

Manchester City took the lead in less than 10 minutes when Ellen White tapped Lauren Hemp’s deflected shot.

Weir filled Manchester City’s lead with a second goal in the 69th minute and fired a loose ball volley shot from a corner kick to 3-1 on the side.

With this victory, head coach Gareth Taylor won his second trophy in Manchester City.
