The Chiara Smith season at 23 Florida ended due to an injury, guards said on Twitter on Friday.
Smith was helped from the floor when the Gators defeated Vanderbilt in a come-from-behind victory at the SEC tournament on Thursday. In the fourth quarter, after contact, he fell awkwardly and looked like a right knee injury.
“Unfortunately my time on the Gator’s court is over while I’ve been fighting today and in the weeks of post-season play,” Smith writes.
Florida struggled without Smith on Friday and fell to Olemis 60-70 in the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament.
Smith led Florida with 14.6 points, 4.6 assists and 2.4 steals per game in 30 starts this season. Florida (20-9) is in its best season since 2015-16 under interim head coach Kelly Rae Finley.
