Frank Ocean Coachella will not return to the 2023 stage after headlining the festival last Sunday, their representatives confirmed on Wednesday.
The “Lost” singer, 35, who injured her ankle and foot in the festival grounds until Weekend 1, cited the injuries as preventing her from returning.
His representatives said in a statement to BuzzFeed News, “Frank Ocean was unable to perform as intended, but still intended to perform, and in 72 hours, the show was canceled out of necessity.” The statement said that due to two fractures and a sprain in his left foot, Ocean will not perform on the advice of his doctor.
Blink-182 will replace Ocean as the Sunday headliner, Diversity informed of. Bad Bunny and Blackpink will return as headliners on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
BuzzFeed News has contacted representatives for Blink-182 for comment.
Ocean’s show last Sunday in Indio, California, marked his first live performance in six years, but it ultimately disappointed many in attendance after arriving an hour late, forcing his scheduled two-hour run due to curfew restrictions. The performance ended abruptly.
Fans were already disappointed that YouTube announced their performance would not be livestreamed.
Ocean was first billed to headline Coachella in 2020, but was put on hold along with the rest of the event industry at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival returns in 2022 with Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and Swedish House Mafia and The Weeknd headlining.
Ocean received praise online for his vocals last Sunday, with most complaints being about the lighting, frequent pauses between songs, and multiple features obstructing the singer’s views.
“It was chaotic,” the musician said in the statement. “There is some beauty in chaos. It’s not what I wanted to show but I enjoyed being there and I’ll see you soon.”
