Leylah Fernandez saves five match points to win Monterrey title – JWS

Leylah Fernandez lasted longer than Camilla Osorio at the Aviert GNP Segro Tournament on Sunday, defending the title with three sets of thrillers 6-7 (5), 6-4 and 7-6 (3). Second Seed saved five championship points in a two-hour, 52-minute match.

Fernandez made a hot start, taking a 4-1 lead and serving the first set 5-3 before Osorio counterattacked to take the first set. In the second set, Fernandez led again 4-1 and Osorio 5-4.

Osorio won by erasing five different championship points, taking a 4-1 lead in the third set before Fernandez counterattacked.

This was the first expert meeting between 19-year-old Fernandez and 20-year-old Osorio. The two met three times at the Junior Grand Slam event, and Fernandez won 2-1.
