The Metropolitan Riveters won a 3-2 overtime victory over Boston Pride on Sunday, thanks to Madison Packer’s overtime hero.
The Riveters captain scored the first star of the game in her performance, scoring one goal and one assist.
“The work is finally starting to pay off,” Packer said after the match. “We have packs on the net. This weekend, we have more packs on the net than in all seasons.
“We hope we can come back to life at the right time, enjoy this and take care of our business next weekend.”
Taylor Wenczkowski scored a goal in the 15th minute of the first period, putting Boston on the board first. She was helped by Kali Flanagan and Jillian Dempsey.
The Riveters will also be pulled by Mallory Rushton in the second period, notching one of the packer’s assists. The game’s second star, Rebecca Russo, scored another goal for the Riveters a little over three minutes later, scoring 2-1 in favor of the home team. Boston scored again in the second period to 2-2.
During the third period of scoreless, two teams were sent to overtime.
Riveters goalkeeper Sonzia Shelley stopped 40 of the 42 shots she faced to win the game’s third star. The Riveters scored 35 shots.
