Rookie Sam Coffey scores game-winner in Thorns’ preseason finale – JWS

Rookie midfielder Sam Coffey scored the only goal in a pre-season victory when Portland Thorns beat the Chicago Red Stars 1-0 on Friday night.

Coffey broke 0-0 deadlock in game 73rd Minutes, curl with a deflection shot from the outside of the box and raise the thorns to 1-0.

Selected for the second round of the 2021 NWSL draft, Coffey signed a two-year contract with Portland in January after a successful career at Pennsylvania State University.

Sophia Smith wins the title and Thornes finishes the pre-season tournament with a 2-0-1 record. Thorn’s main goal scorer..

Portland will launch the Challenge Cup campaign on Friday to win OL Reign in Lumenfield.
