Shah Rukh Khan recalls how Gauri Khan became an interior designer due to financial constraints; ‘Can’t afford sofa’

Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan are the power couple of Beetown. They stay connected to each other through overcoming their struggles in life. Shah Rukh Khan is considered to be the king of Bollywood and of course, and it could not have happened without his wife, who is a renowned interior designer. The actor revealed how Gauri Khan started designing out of necessity when she was financially strapped. The actor recalled the time when he didn’t have money to buy a sofa and asked his wife to design it. He showed his prowess in designing when he bought his first house in Mumbai. The actor talked about the time when they were expecting Aryan Khan and wanted a place to live which was beyond their means. He could not afford a lavish lifestyle so he bought his first house before buying Mannat. He used to spend on things when needed, avoiding extra expenditure. Gauri Khan has launched them The new coffee table book My Life in Design talks about their life and the struggles they went through together. Shah Rukh Khan has written a foreword to the book and it is being circulated on the internet. In the introduction, SRK reveals that Gauri Khan put on her designing hat when they could not afford to buy a sofa. The couple was short of money and could not afford to hire a designer, so Gauri took over. Since the sofa was expensive they bought leather and waited for a carpenter which was designed by Gauri Khan as a sketch in her notebook. This is where his interest in designing started. He bought the raw materials and instructed the carpenters to bring his ideas into reality. This went on for years and when things got better for them, they bought Mannat a big house. Story repeated, they spent all their money on the property and had no money left for the interior. Then Gauri Khan came to the rescue and became an interior designer.

In the note, SRK mentioned how Gauri started understanding the concept of designing and trained herself. Necessity soon turned into passion. Gauri now owns her firm Gauri Khan Designs in Worli, Mumbai, designing spaces for high-profile individuals.
