Babil Khan has posted the trailer of his father and actor Irrfan’s last film, The Song Of Scorpions, which is set to premiere in India. Babil said, “Bringing to life a heart-wrenching tale of love, passion and betrayal.” Set in the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, the film features Irrfan as a camel trader who falls in love with Nooran (played by Golshifteh Farhani). The plot revolves around a folktale where Nooran is the only song that can cure a scorpion sting.
In the thrilling trailer, we see Nooran walking through the desert singing to heal people who have been bitten by scorpions. As she enthralls the audience with her performance, Irrfan’s character falls deeply in love with her, and she too develops feelings for him. However, their plans to get married come to a halt when a tragic incident takes place. Waheeda Rehman plays Nooran’s grandmother in the film.
In a 2017 interview with Hindustan Times, director Anoop Singh revealed that it was Irrfan who proposed Golshifteh Farahani as the female lead. Sadly, Irrfan passed away in April 2020 after a two-year battle with neuroendocrine tumour.
He had said, “Yeah, when I first started writing the male character, I even named him ‘Irrfan’! That’s how I saw the character. Irrfan has the flair of a musician. Although we don’t really get along well with each other, Not much is said, we listen to each other’s timbre, modulation, tone of voice, and improvise dialogues like two musical instruments! We have a deep understanding and respect for each other’s creative inspirations. So When we work together, it is not only at ease but also with the joy of opening up to each other’s creative excellence. I hope to do many more films with Irrfan. I already have a script when he turns 80!
It will hit the theaters on April 28, a day before Irrfan’s third death anniversary.
